Facebook & Family
Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and YouTube are some of the easiest ways to stay close to family, near or far - and to enjoy videos you love. Nothing here will tell you to stop using them. It's about a few small settings, so the people who see your life are the people you meant to share it with.
By the end you will
- Set up and find your way around Facebook, YouTube, and Messenger or WhatsApp for calls.
- Set a post's audience to Friends, and control who can send you friend requests.
- Recognize a fake profile or scam message - and never send money to someone you met only online.
Lessons
4.1 Facebook: your account and your posts
You set up the account once, with your own password and the code Facebook sends you. Every post has an audience button - choose Friends, not Public.
4.2 Friend requests and online strangers
A stranger with a nice photo, a second request from an old friend, a sweetheart who needs money - each is a known trick. Once you know them, they stop working.
4.3 Free calls and YouTube
Messenger and WhatsApp call family anywhere for free over Wi-Fi. YouTube has a microphone for searching and CC for captions.
4.4 Ads and posts that aren't true
Miracle cures, famous faces and shocking news spread fastest. Ask your doctor about health claims, and check the source before you share.
Remember this
- Set posts to Friends, not Public.
- Only accept friend requests from people you actually know.
- Never send money to someone you met only online.
- Messenger and WhatsApp = free calls to family.
- On YouTube, tap CC for captions.
